Wandering down to Jeffrey St Wharf, what should appear but a Sea King helicopter!
(Hmmm, did the ferry sink?)
Ah, they're doing a rescue demonstration for Australia Day!
On the first pass, the victim jumps out of the chopper and waves goodbye.
(Click to zoom photos on this page.)
The chopper buzzes off for a second pass, dropping a flare, presumably to pinpoint the location and wind direction.
Back on the third pass...
... to drop off the rescuer.
And the chopper buzzes off again.
(Which is great because it's a howling gale under there!)
Fouth pass, and it's lowering a cage...
... winching up the victim.
(About time!)
Just about in!
Fifth pass, and here comes the rescuer.
The Sea King is hovering low, but it's a long way up!
Bye!
Why's it coming back for a sixth time?
Ah! To wave to the crowd!
