Bankstown Airport: three runways, two three helipads and a river!
The tower looks almost straight down the three runways.
The tower controller is on the left, ground and coordination is on the right.
(Yes, that's a chopper doing an air transit! Click to enlarge.)
It's a long way down to the threshhold, so they often break out the binoculars.
Especially if you are flying something very strange...
What is that?
When it's busy, a third controller takes over the southern runway.
Surpisingly, that controller sits on the northern side of the tower! (photo left.)
The tower controller has a sheet of paper with columns for the major locations (eg Prospect, 2RN.)
They write the aircraft's registration in the appropriate column and transpose it to other columns as the aircraft moves.
The ground controller/coordinator has strips for coordinating with
Sydney.
Oh, and then there's the river!
Yes, that is a low-wing float plane on short final for the George's River!
